About Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
An obsessive compulsive disorder, also known as OCD, is an out of control approach of dealing with anxious thoughts. Often, the positive effects of rTMS treatments are already noticeable after ten treatments.
What is an obsessive compulsive disorder?
An obsessive compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder. Someone with an obsessive compulsive disorder has recurring obsessions or compulsions. Obsessions are often recurring intrusive thoughts, images or impulses. These thoughts are very persistent and cause fear. People with obsessive- compulsive disorder consider these thoughts meaningless. They know that these thoughts do not originate from outside, but from within themselves. The compulsive thoughts go far beyond worrying about daily affairs. The compulsive thoughts are often about diseases, dirt, God, sex, one’s own aggression and about making mistakes with a terrible outcome.
Obsessive thoughts and compulsions
In general, the obsessive thoughts arouse fear. To get rid of this fear, people perform actions. These actions become compulsive (compulsive acts), but ensure that the fear, unfortunately, often temporarily, diminishes. Common compulsive thoughts are about injuring someone else (stabbing, drowning), violent thoughts, blasphemous thoughts and doubts (for example, whether you have said the wrong thing).
The two most common compulsive acts are checking and cleaning (fear of stains). Compulsive acts can also occur in the head, such as counting things or praying over and over.
By performing the compulsive action, people with obsessive compulsive disorder think that the things they fear will not happen. When someone is afraid of infecting others or themselves, they will often wash their hands, arms and clothes, or clean the entire house in a certain way. People who are afraid of disasters will often continue to check the lights, taps, electricity sockets, gas taps and payment transfers. Also, having to touch things, placing items symmetrically, collecting or repetition are compulsive actions.
Treatment and results with rTMS
On average, a course of treatment at rTMS International consists of 20-30 treatments. This number is needed to achieve positive, long-term results. We will schedule an intake interview with you prior to treatment. This meeting is intended to get a clear picture of your compulsive complaints, based on which the practitioner can then make a good estimate of the chances of success of the treatment. For more than 60% of clients with a compulsive disorder, treatment with rTMS is successful and the complaints decrease on average by 60%. Curious about what rMTS can do for you? Contact us today.
