Costs of rTMS treatment

Reimbursed Care basic health insurance

If you’re dealing with treatment-resistant depression (meaning at least two evidence-based treatments were ineffective), your treatment with us is fully reimbursed by most Dutch health insurers under the basic insurance coverage for depression and/or depression with OCD. You only pay the mandatory deductible of €385, unless you have opted for a higher deductible.

You will periodically receive an invoice, which you can submit to your health insurer. Your insurer will then transfer an amount to your bank account (between 60% and 100%). This amount, plus any applicable deductible, should be transferred to us. Because we believe in helping everyone, we cover the remaining unreimbursed portion. This is the difference between what your insurer pays and the actual cost of the treatment.

Please note: Health insurers Zorg en Zekerheid and DSW / Stad Holland do not reimburse rTMS treatments. In that case, you can turn to Neurocare for treatment. If you’re insured with one of these companies but would still prefer to be treated by us (e.g. due to travel distance), you’ll need to switch to another health insurer. Of course, you may also choose to pay for the treatment yourself (see Unreimbursed Care below). Please contact us in advance to discuss your options via info@rtms-international.com.

Health insurers ASR (Ditzo / De Amersfoortse), Aevitae, and ONVZ do not reimburse the treatment directly. After your intake sessions, you will need to request authorization, which we will arrange for you. Once authorization is approved, the treatment will be reimbursed and can begin.

Unreimbursed Care

The cost for the intake process is a one-time fee of €400, which includes the pre-intake, psychiatric intake, and on-site intake. Each rTMS session costs €150 (excluding talk therapy). For reimbursed care, the full session price is €277.73. A comprehensive session lasting one hour including a rTMS session followed by talk therapy costs €200 per session.

No-show fees

If you’re unable to attend your appointment or your schedule changes last-minute, please notify us as soon as possible. If you cancel less than 48 hours in advance or do not show up, we will charge a €50 fee for a regular rTMS session and €100 for a one-hour extended session. We understand that plans can change unexpectedly, but it’s important for us to schedule your session properly and reserve that time for you. We appreciate timely communication to help avoid any additional charges.

Frequently asked

If you’re dealing with treatment-resistant depression and wish to qualify for full reimbursement, a referral from your GP or psychiatrist is required.
However, if you prefer to receive treatment anonymously without your GP or health insurer being informed of your condition, no referral is needed. In that case, too, the condition must be a treatment-resistant depression or obsessive-compulsive disorder.

On the contact page, below the contact form, you can find the current waiting list for each location.

rTMs is a technique that was introduced in the late 1990s as a treatment for depression. Since then, scientific and clinical research has been conducted to determine the safety of the treatment and to investigate the most effective protocols. It has been established that rTMS is a safe method that, for a large proportion of clients, contributes to the reduction of depression and / or compulsive complaints. Various publications show that clients with the “therapy resistant” diagnosis responded positively to treatment with rTMS. rTMS has been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) since 2008 and since 2017 a number of Dutch health insurance companies have reimbursed treatment under the supplementary insurance.

rTMS treatment is generally well tolerated and has few to no side effects. You will sit in the treatment chair, and the coil that delivers the magnetic pulses will be placed against your head. These magnetic pulses stimulate specific areas of the brain. Some people may experience mild tension headaches after the session. To prevent this, you may choose to take a paracetamol beforehand.
