What do we treat?
At rTMS International, we focus on treating treatment-resistant depression. When other mental health conditions, such as OCD, are also present, rTMS may be used to treat the depression. We always carefully assess whether rTMS is appropriate for your individual situation.
Treatment-resistant depression (TRD)
Depression is considered treatment-resistant when previous treatments have not been sufficiently effective and depressive symptoms persist. rTMS may then be considered as a next treatment option. Targeted magnetic pulses are used to stimulate specific areas of the brain involved in mood regulation and depressive symptoms.
Other mental health conditions and forms of depression
The conditions listed below are not, on their own, indications for rTMS treatment at rTMS International. However, when treatment-resistant depression is also present, rTMS may be considered for the treatment of the depression.
Obsessive- compulsive disorder
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) can occur alongside depression. At rTMS International, we do not treat OCD as a standalone indication for rTMS. However, if treatment-resistant depression is also present, rTMS may be a suitable treatment option.
Anxiety disorder
Anxiety and depressive symptoms often occur together. We do not treat anxiety disorders alone with rTMS. However, when an anxiety disorder occurs alongside treatment-resistant depression, rTMS may be used to treat the depression.
Seasonal depression
With seasonal depression, depressive symptoms return during a particular season, usually autumn and winter. A seasonal pattern alone is not an indication for rTMS. However, if the depressive disorder meets the criteria for treatment-resistant depression, rTMS may be a suitable treatment option.
Postpartum depression
Postpartum depression develops after childbirth and can have a significant impact on daily functioning. At rTMS International, rTMS is not offered solely because the depression is postpartum. Treatment may be considered when treatment-resistant depression is present and our assessment indicates that rTMS is both suitable and safe.

Whether rTMS is suitable depends on your diagnosis, previous treatments and medical situation. During a careful assessment, we determine whether rTMS is safe and appropriate for you.
